What a difference a day makes

Finally I have got around to clearing and planting the area at the bottom of our section.  I now have to keep the Wandering Jew under control - I plan to spot weed it to start with and then put down wet newspaper with lawnmowings on top.

The "plants" are bits cut off a plant (is it an agave?) near the house that was getting too big and I gather that they root really easily - I hope so.  At least it looks better than it did.

The branch at the top left is a huge magnolia.

  1. My knowledge of garden plants is abysmal, but I do recognize the banana. Looks like you've been hard at work!

  2. On reflection. Aren't they Yukkas?

  3. Yes, I think you are right, someone told me they were agave - I have never grown them before. The large plant was here and when I trimmed it back I thought the cuttings would make a good divider hedge.

I did the clearing over several days trying not to hurt the shoulders too much but had to get someone in to dig the holes and do the planting. Soil is full of rocks.

    How is your shoulder?

  4. I can use it again, but I've been left with a wretched pain that feels as if someone's given me a hefty PUNCH on the arm. No doubt this will go in time.

  5. Gosh Sue - looks as if you've been busy too! I think the plants are yuccas. I've got two in pots by the garage. They are gorgeous when they come into flower - a beautiful cream colour. Trouble is, here they only flower once every seven years. I've had mine to flower once.

  6. Molly, I don't think they flower very often here. I have never had them before but there have been no flowers in the 2 years we have been here and the main plant is pretty big. Hopefully they will all take and make a fine hedge. Hope the kitchen is going on well.
