Saturday Market and walk

As we were missing out on various items if we got to the market at 7.30 we have been making an extra effort to get there earlier.

On Saturday, although I had my alarm set for 6 a.m., I actually woke just before 5.30 and decided to get up then so that I could have some warming porridge before Doug picked me up.  I phoned him just before 6 a.m. and he collected me at about 6.30.  We would have got to the market at about 6.45.

Apart from fruit and vegies I have been buying very nice Angus beef from a couple who drive down from Kaitaia (they have to get up at 3a.m.).  I also like the gluten free bread I buy at the market.

After we have bought all on my list plus a few other items we went down to the Town Basin to walk Sophie and then on to New World Supermarket.

The full moon as we left my place.

and when we were at the market - I was on "infinity" hence the blur.

It is starting to get light at the market.  The stallholders have various types of lighting for their stalls.

Early morning down at the Town Basin.

Unusual grey fungi.

This is what New World Supermarket carpark is like if one shops before 8 a.m.

and the sun just rising as we loaded the car with our groceries.

  1. Good grief, that's an early start. Our tiny little market doesn't open until 9am, though people often get there earlier. Our market doesn't sell meat unfortunately (it's not a Farmer's Market) but it has excellent vegetables.

    1. Ours is termed a Growers' Market and everything must be produced in Northland. It runs from 6.30 to 10.30 a.m. It is great in summer but a bit hard getting out of a warm bed when it is still dark and cold.

    1. Prefer them in summer but the produce is worth getting up early for and, once one is up it is great.

  3. Lovely early morning goodies, a super market too. Cheers,Jean. p.s. just think, by the time you were home again, so many had not even started their day, look what they missed.

    1. I am more of an owl by nature but seem to be burning the candle at both ends lately. It feels good once one has actually got out of bed and getting up early enough to have my porridge before leaving home made a difference.

  4. As you probably know, we love to go to the car boots but lots of them start so early and like you we never get there early enought to get the real goodies. I wish I could but the bed pulls me back . lol
Looks like it was worth getting up for thought for you.

    1. Will try and keep it up but it is still only the start of winter and will get colder and wetter I am sure. Not sure I will manage it when the rain is pouring down.

  5. Whenever I make an early start to the day I think to myself that I should do it more often - it is special being up and about when others are still in bed.

  7. Most shops here open at 9am, a few at 8am. I get-up every day at 5.30am... lovely and quiet.

    1. Can't see why anyone would want to get up at 5.30 a.m. on a cold, wet winter's morning.

  8. It's light here soon after 4.30 am and I usually get up at 5 (then have a nap after dinner). It's very hard getting up in the dark though so I don't envy you, Sue. Love your pictures of the boat reflections - lovely.

  10. Gorgeopus photos, well worth getting up early for. I'm like Rosemary - don't get up early very often and then enjoy it when I do. But leaving home in the dark to go to the market sounds very early.

  12. Goodness you certainly make the most of your day not sure I could do it in winter though - not so bad in summer when the dawn chorus wakes you.

    1. Must say it is hard getting going at that time of the morning in winter. Once up it is worth it to get the things I want. That is just the start of the day. I just don't know where the time goes. Still it is better than being bored!!!!!!
