SOPHIE

Although I refer to Sophie as a Labrador she is actually a Labrador/Retriever cross.  She has been feeling the heat with this hot, humid weather so, this morning, she had her first ever haircut.  I think she looks great.  She had the works - haircut, shampoo, blow dry, perfumed and nails clipped.

  1. We all need whatever helps in this heat. 34.7 here yesterday. She looks great, and it will be lots easier to give her a bath.

    1. Wow, that is hot. It is a bit cooler here today - much better for our walk up Mt. Parihaka.

Yes, the haircut will make things much better for her.

  2. She looks gorgeous, they are such a happy breed of dogs.

  3. It's not surprising that they're the world's most popular dog.

    1. She is doing very well at 10 years old considering that for the first five she was not very well looked after.

I am sure the last five have made up for that.

    1. Of course it is a bit cooler today but I doubt if it will last - it will be much easier to dry her after her numerous swims.

  5. She looks a happy girl! Labs have such good temperaments. Did you know you can buy cooling pads for dogs, from places like Bunnings? They are quite cheap (around $20) and don't need to be plugged in. A friend of mine bought one for her big dog (breed unknown!) who was really feeling the heat and he seems to like it.

  6. She looks beautiful - what a treat!
It's so hard for them - the humidity has been so high over the last few weeks.
She might enjoy the sprinkler too - so long as you haven't got watering restrictions.
Yes Sue, the one at Russell - good spotting!

  7. I've never heard of a Labrador being clipped before but I am sure she enjoys being without an extra layer of fur.

    1. Her coat was a bit longer being a retriever cross. It was the fact that they are not usually clipped that she hadn't been done before. Doug was amazed at how much came off her.

She definitely seems happier with the shorter coat and looks more like a puppy again.

  8. How smart Sophie looks - and what a beautiful girl. We have two Labs., so I'm biased of course.
Our ten year old girl. has a longish, very typical Lab. thick "double" coat, but I've never thought of having her clipped. She moults constantly - all year round and we can pull big clumps of hair out without leaving a bald spot. I'll have a word with our vet to see if clipping is a good idea. We have very hot summers here (we live in Spain) and last year was hotter than ever.

  9. Sophie's coat is much the same and, like your dog, she moults constantly. She is also 10.

Doug had never thought of having her clipped and it was only after his daughter had her dogs clipped that he decided to do Sophie.

She definitely seems a lot happier and, of course, her coat dries a lot faster after her constant swims and Doug doesn't find as much hair in the house.

  10. This brings to mind a dream I had last night where I was laying on the floor in the living room, the blinds were closed and all I could think was that no one knew where I was and that no one would come. It was pretty scary I can tell you!
