LAST PHOTOS OF A LOVELY BREAK

I found a nice long piece of kelp

Horses with cattle in the background taken from the deck of the cottage.

On the final evening we walked north along the beach

We must have walked  a couple of miles up the beach to where this horse was and it  followed us back down the beach to join the others by our cottage.

and ignored us and calmly wandered on past

It is now back to the reality of general life and Rest Home visiting.  When I visited today they were weighing Max prior to putting him to bed for a siesta.  He is down to just under 51 kg. He was about 70 kg when he went into care 4 years ago next week.  He has been on mouli food due to trouble swallowing for over a year and has protein "jellies" for morning and afternoon tea.

He is usually asleep when I visit (whatever the time of day) and the doctor has just had various tests done to make sure this is not something more than general deterioration. It is all so cruel and undignified.

  1. Those rock pools look so inviting; I could potter around there all day long.

  2. We could easily have spent a week (or more) there.

  3. Sorry to hear that Max continues to deteriorate, it is such a difficult and still familiar disease to deal with.

    1. It is something one wouldn't wish on ones worst enemy.

  4. What a wonderful spot you found to stay in - it is very cruel and undignified for Max, we all hope that is not our own destiny.

    1. Will, hopefully, be going back there.

Yes, it is cruel and I wonder how long it will go on for. I just hope he doesn't realise what is happening.

  5. My dad's been in a nursing home for 4 years. He'd hate it if he was more aware. It's not what he would have wanted at all.

    1. It is horrible isn't it. Max is now unable to do anything for himself. I feel for you and your Dad.

Have just had a look at your blog - the mention of Ashdown Forest brought back many memories - I went to School at East Grinstead and was remembering visiting some rocks that were used for climbing near Weir Wood Reservoir.

  6. The beach is beautiful and unspoilt - the horses are a wonderful bonus!

Poor Max and poor you having to watch his demise..... Very sad.

    1. If you like unspoilt beaches like that it is well worth a visit and the beach house was very comfortable.

  7. How lucky you were to be in such a lovely place by the beach. Do you think the horse was lost or is that something that you might see along the shore in that area?

    1. He appeared to be walking down the beach to join the horses pictured in front of our cottage. There were also more where he started from . The cows in front of the cottage seemed to go in the other direction - they were all free to just road - the only fences were around a few houses to keep the horses out.

  8. Sorry to comment on all your holiday posts at once, but I'm trying to do a quick catch-up. You had a very interesting and picturesque journey and Mitimiti is the kind of place DH and I love - unspoiled wilderness and wonderful natural beauty. The beach is glorious.

So sorry to hear that Max is detriorating. This long decline is so hard on him and on you.
