NEW CARPET

The carpet layers arrived promptly at about 8.30 yesterday and have done a wonderful job.  They worked busily until just after 4 p.m. Doug had gone home at this stage but returned earlier than usual and managed to get the whole house vacuumed.  After an early meal he went home exhausted.

Today after the usual dog walk etc.  We came back here and Doug shaved the bottom off three doors that were catching on the carpet while I did several loads of washing.  Last night we brought the settee inside and my bed back into the bedroom but the rest will be done as time and energy allow.  I haven't even opened the new curtains I have bought.  I hope they are suitable - there will be some alterations to do.

The blue plastic dust sheet went back up last night and will remain until the curtains are fitted.

  1. My kind of carpet. Very neutral and makes the rooms look bigger.

    1. Yes, I like neutral, more relaxing. Rooms large by today's standard - that is the width in the photo.

    1. Not quite time to sit back. Cleaning windows and bringing some items in today. Doug's grandson may come by to lend a hand with some larger pieces - I must say some were a bit heavy for me but we managed them and will do again if he doesn't come.

  3. Updating a house is never easy, however when everything is done and the curtains are up, it all seems worth the trouble.

    1. It is well worth it already - the new paint and carpet has made such a difference but there is no way I could have done it on my own.

    1. Definitely. Still lots more to do. Most of the windows now cleaned and three curtains hung. All the furniture except the settee, small table and a bed are still to be moved in. No hurry this time.

  5. Lookin' good. I think we may have to re-do the carpets at Kew Street some time. Our tenants have not looked after them.

    1. Unfortunately no rent to help pay for it here. The carpet needed replacing when we moved here 7 years ago. Still no more money but they got so bad that I finally got brave enough and, of course, I had Doug's help with the painting and furniture removal.

  6. NICE! I still love carpets, even though so many of the homes here in the U.S. now have wood. We have carpet in most of our homes and it just feels so much better to walk around barefoot on it!

    1. I have a concrete floor so the carpet is a necessity. The new one is lovely to walk on in bare feet.
