SOUTH ISLAND DAY 7

Our last full day on this tour was spent on the Mail Boat Run on the Pelorous Sound.  Once again we were lucky with the weather.  Apart from delivering mail to various bays around the Sound we also got to see some oyster and salmon  farms.  It was a most enjoyable day followed by a delicious meal at the Mussel Pot Cafe

  1. that would be the icing!!! A great trip, Hugh went on the mail boat from French Pass to Durville Island in 1986. For those families mail arrival would be the highlight of their week, specially before cell phones, internet and email or txt. We met some families while we camped at French Pass. And were invited to a dinner of wild venison.Never forgotten that time.

    1. I had done the trip in 1966 while backpacking. From memory there were less deliveries this time but a wonderful trip. In spite of Cyclone Debbie the weather was perfect. The dogs and, in one case pigs, came down to meet the boat.
