We started at the Town Basin and the Chariot was pulled using people power through the centre of Whangarei stopping in the Town Centre for celebrations then continuing on to Cafler Park Rose Gardens where a delicious meal was provided for all comers.
Everyone was happy and friendly. After the parade bananas and water melon were passed around, then we all sat down on the lawn and the meal was brought to us. Lassi to drink and a delicious eggplant and tofu stew with steamed rice. I also saw what looked like a chickpea dish being served on the other lawn.
I can almost hear the music from here. great piccy's.

The music and dancing was great - music was also played while we ate.
DeleteIt looks like a fun, colorful event and also very well attended.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised by the number of Hare Krishna followers in Northland. They do a lot of good running a food in schools scheme and free meals in Whangarei. If the meal we had is anything to go buy it would be delicious.
Deletethat should, of course, read "anything to go BY"
DeleteLots of colour and fun in the sun - I didn't realise that there was such a large Assian community in NZ.
ReplyDeleteAt the Rest Home where Max is a large number of the nurses are of Indian descent while the majority of carers are from the Philippines.

The whole atmosphere was happy.
DeleteMum took the words right out of my mouth. Looks like a lovely day out.
ReplyDeleteWe were so pleased we attended - a great day out (and completely free).
DeleteHow very exotic. I thought the guy with the horse-drawn cart could have made a bit more effort! Hardly any folk here of Asian descent; just N Africans.
ReplyDeleteA wide ranging mix here.
DeleteVery bright and colourful, and a fine day, lovely series altogether, cannot really choose my favourite, all lovely. Cheers from Jean
