The ten day forecast does not have one "sun symbol' in it so it is batten down the hatches and stay inside for today at least. The wind was howling all night and there is a macrocarpa tree across both lanes of a road not far from here. The rain is just starting.
On the home front the latest project for Doug was the surround for my pot belly stove. It is directly opposite the front door and the kitchen and looked like this
It now looks like this with the surround made of rimu to match the woodwork in the kitchen.
And Summer is here, however we had Rain last night. Have you been drying your potato peels to burn in your pot belly stove? xx
ReplyDeleteOh, no, I must do that - currently have macadamia nuts drying under the stove. Rain is belting down now.
ReplyDeleteWith the stove, soup, boiling water for coffee, and a casserole if the power goes off. Lovely rimu woodwork. Cheers,Jean
ReplyDeleteYes, I am well set up if the power does go off. Hope things are improving for you.
DeleteThe boy done good! Your weather sounds like ours; summer has temporarily abandoned us. No swim for a week.
ReplyDeleteIt is winter so I suppose we can expect some bad weather. Hope it passes quickly though. A large area is without power and the wind is too strong for the men to get out to repair things.
DeleteI just went and looked at the weather forecast when I saw your blog post. Does sound very rough up your way. Glad you have a pot belly it will keep you well fed and warm. The woodwork job looks fab I bet Doug enjoys helping out for some of your cooking. Love Leanne
ReplyDeleteYes, I love the new woodwork. Doug stayed home tonight and didn't come here for his meal as the weather is too bad.
DeleteI've just been hearing about the weather in the North on the radio. Sounds terrible! At least your power is on, let's hope it stays that way. The surround looks great. Doug did a great job. I really miss my fire, a heat pump is efficient but far from cosy. No soul! You can't sit around a heatpump!
ReplyDeleteLuckily I still have power but read in this morning's paper there are 17,000 properties without power in the Northland region. Winds apparently reached 160 km an hour. I thought the house was going to shift a couple of times in the night.
DeletePoor you, the weather sounds awful. Doug has done a good job with the surround, sounds like you will be needing to use the stove - I can't bear to think about winter just yet.
ReplyDeleteYes, as I mentioned to Judith it was a pretty rough night but it is winter and Cro, above, says they have the same thing in France and it is summer there. Surprising you don't have bad weather as well in the U.K.
DeleteSounds like perfect weather for reading a good book.
ReplyDeleteExactly - I had an early night last night and did just that.
DeleteVery smart. Clever Doug.
ReplyDeleteLove from Mum
xx
Yes it is and he is.
DeleteIsn't the weather been a bit a frightening, Susan! I'm so glad the wind has dropped...I was afraid of something blowing in through the windows, yesterday!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was quite scary last night. Just been to view Whangarei Falls. Would look great from below.
ReplyDeleteOur fire area looks just like your before photo - looks like I need a Doug to update the look! Hope you've managed to stay warm and dry. Good to have that wind dropping - it was pretty scary!
ReplyDeleteSeems to be getting up here again.
