Today we drove 30 kms to Poroti to an open Magnolia Garden with 150 deciduous magnolias. There was a $5.00 entry in aid of the "
I Have a Dream Year 7 students trip to Hillary Outdoors, Tongariro". I always think that deciduous Magnolias look their best with some greenery behind them but they were still a magnificent display.
It was a pleasant drive through lovely countryside. The weather was variable (sunny with the odd shower).
I am a huge fan of fowering trees. Magnolias aren't native to No. California, but I have seen some planted in folks' front yards & there are some in the San Francisco Botanic Garden.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely afternoon.
There are lots of older Magnolia trees around Whangarei. This property had only been purchased in 2002 and completely planted since then so the trees are all quite young.
DeleteThose trees together surrounded by lawn, pink blossoms, that is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThere were some lovely flowers.
DeleteThe pink flowering ones are my favourite, such a vibrant colour, we've got them flower here too.
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely, aren't they
DeleteMagnolias in bloom are one the first signs of spring and their beauty is always a joy to see.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is starting to feel like spring and the daffodils are out.
DeleteI have never seen a red Magnolia, just white and slightly pink. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThat was my favourite. I think that unusual yellow one will be great when it is out.
DeleteMagnolias - I love them. Such beautiful flowers. I would love to have a yellow one, I don't think I have ever seen one. I have a pink one and a deep wine coloured one flowering in my garden at the moment, both young trees so not very big. The huge old magnolia trees are magnificent.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of old magnolias around the town. The yellow one was lovely. How nice to have the deep wine coloured one.
