CYCLONE TAM

It is hard to believe that just a few short weeks ago we were in drought.  Since then we had a storm last week and have had this storm (cyclone Tam)  since yesterday morning.

When I went down the drive to get the newspapers this morning I did some tidying up and cleared a pipe under a garden to let water flow out from our lawn.  I was drenched to the skin when I got in.  Doug is out now.  One of our N.S.W. Waratahs has blown against a fence but it is damaged at the base and he is going to cut it down. We will miss it as we looked out at it from our kitchen and dining windows. It is the one the Tui loved as in this photo for our 2023 Christmas card.

A lot of power outages.  Hope ours stays on. We keep intending to get a generator - must get around to it.  Thunderstorms forecast as well.

  1. Really severe up your way, stay safe, and yes, get a generator,We have one and it can be very handy at times like this.I'm so glad we are staying home this Easter.Such a shame with the beautiful Waratah, they are truly a gorgeous colour.

    1. Hosing down heavier again at the moment. Procrastination is the trouble with generator or rather decision making as to size needed versus noise.

  2. Extreme weather seems to be the norm all around the world. Meanwhile, we could use some proper rain; preferably over night.

  5. I was just watching a video of the storm on the NZ Herald. It's doing a lot of damage. Hopefully not around your house

    1. No, nothing major here. Another couple of shrubs cut back today as they were leaning. I went for a short walk in the break between showers and a neighbour had a largish bush knocked over smashing a fence and a couple of neighbours had their fences blown down.

  8. Hi Susan,
I came across your blog via Cro Magnon's.
Thought I'd comment and say hi; but that sounds too cheerful considering your hunkering-down from a hurricane. Hope the electricity is ok.
Luckily, the weather in england (London) is quite nice. ☺️

  9. Welcome, I think we are safe from power cuts this time. Still a lot of people without power further north in more rural areas. Weather has improved a lot but showery today. I just had a quick look at your blog and enjoyed seeing the flowering cherry. Signs of spring are always welcome as we head to winter. Not sure where in London you are. Before I came to New Zealand I lived for a while in north London and later, on a visit we met a couple from Harrow and have always stayed with them on return trips although I have not been back since 1985.
