Hydrangeas

Another year older today.  Last night I photographed most of the hydrangeas we have on the property.  Most were here when we bought but the lovely white oak leafed hydrangea I got from a friend - it is still only small and just one flower but it almost sparkles.

The deeper blue one didn't have quite the depth of colour in the photo as it does in the flesh so to speak.

Unfortunately, hubby has had what I assume are hallucinations while in the Rest Home and is not at all happy - I know it is not really him that is talking.  He also picked up a nasty cough and is on antibiotics and asleep at the moment.

The weather has been atrocious - it is supposed to be summer - it is not cold but has been wet, wet, wet.  Have just stayed indoors for the whole of the holiday period.  Hopefully, the sun will reappear over the coming weekend.

Still it is another year soon.

  1. The top one looks like a climbing Hydrangea that I've recently planted called 'Schizophragma' (I've still got the label).

Happy Birthday. We now have three in a row; Monty, Lady M, and your good self.

  2. Happy Birthday Susan. I love your your hydrangeas. I think that plants given by friends and loved ones always sparkle a little more.

Hope the sun shines for you soon.

  4. Cro - I looked up your climbing hydrangea and it seems to have lots of small flowers - the flowerhead on the oak leafed hydrangea is 14 inches long. It is looking a bit battered this morning after a big thunderstorm last night with heavy rain. There are also lots of green plums on the ground not a good sign for the harvest.

SOACM - yes, I love going around the garden and seeing all the plants given by different people - it makes them much more special.

  6. My hydrangeas are just starting to come out. It's quite a bit colder down here than in the North. I do love hydrangeas! Ghastly weather down here too, though Christmas Day was nice.

  7. Judith - I hope it improves for you. It is 25 degrees here at present with intermittent?? heavy showers. I see the forecast is for fine weather from tomorrow. Still it has been good weather for doing nothing.

    Happy New Year to you.

  9. Sorry I'm so late to the party Susan! Christmas and New Year was a blurry whirl...(too many houseguests).
Anyhow...I hope your birthday was fabulous!
Sorry to hear hubby isn't doing so well and that your summer is a bit soggy. Trusting that things are improving. The hydrangeas are glorious. I have one little bush in my garden...such a beautiful flower.
    Wishing you a wonderful 2012.
