Firewood

The night before last just on dusk, as I was cooking my evening meal, there was loud noise outside.  I went  to investigate and found my wood pile had come crashing down.  As it has dried it has been moving and has been pushed back a couple of times.

As it is dry now it was a good time to put it under cover -
Doug and his grandson have now got it piled alongside one wall of my garage.  Hopefully it will stay put this time.  (It would have taken me weeks to do it).

It fell just as it had been stacked.

This last photo is from the morning walk with Sophie.

  1. That must have sounded dramatic! Looks like you will be warm and cosy this winter. What kind of wood are they?

    1. There is a large variety of wood from New Zealand Natives through to walnut and macrocarpa. I also have an equal amount stored in my porch area so should be fine this winter and yes, it was very dramatic.

  2. No more worries about firewood for me - my new house hasn't got a fireplace. This is both good and bad - electric heating is fast effortless and clean, but I do love my fire!

    1. Yes, electric is fast and clean but I still like my wood burners.

  3. It looks like an Andy Goldsworthy sculpture. If you don't know of him, he's worth looking up on Google.

    2. I hadn't heard of Andy Goldsworthy but did think it looked artistic. Yes, you are welcome to borrow the picture - what have you in mind?

    1. Yes, I have started lighting the fires already - the pot belly stove with its wetback for a short period in the mornings and the woodburner for a couple of hours in the evening. Not as cold here as you would get though.

    1. Yes, I should have plenty of wood. It was quite opportune as we have heavy rain again today (first for a fortnight) and it is good to have it all stacked in the dry.

  6. You will be nice and cosy during the winter months, but how kind that Doug and his grandson sorted you out.

    1. Yes, they even split the larger pieces - would have taken me weeks.

  7. Gosh, that's a good wood pile. We have used nearly all our logs up - it was cold here today so had to light the Rayburn again. I hate being cold.

    1. It will have to be an exceptionally cold and wet winter for me to use up all the wood - even if I have both fires going.

  8. You are so lucky to have a fireplace Susan and all that wood! I'm glad you had help to restack it...especially with all the rain today!

    1. Yes, it was as if it was meant to be - otherwise it would still be outside and wet. Have ended up buying extra wood this year as supplier had sold property and wanted to offload it.
