I have always liked the gleditsia in my garden (well in spring and summer anyway). Unfortunately, it had got too large for my 1/4 acre section and so, on Saturday, I had it cut down.
Luckily, I was talking to one of the gentlemen who has P.D. and goes on the Parkinson's walk and he recommended a man who goes by the name of "Monkey Power" He was wonderful. Below are just a few of the photos I took.
This Australian Frangipani was huge and, occasionally, dropped large limbs so it came down as well
The base of the gleditsia is just over 760mm diameter.
This poor apple tree has been trying to get some sun
Firewood? Woodturning" Paving rounds" Wooden wall? I can see some good use later on for every part of these trees. Watching a " tree feller" at work with slings, harness and spikes is so interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe majority will be firewood plus a couple of hchopping blocks. It will keep me nice and warm next winter and, possibly into the following winter.
DeleteSpikes and a sling around the tree were used up the Frangipani. I missed that as I was visiting Max.
The job took over seven hours with no clearing up. Doug has been doing that for me.
I need your Monkey Man for a Walnut tree; I'd do it myself but the huge branches hang over power and phone lines!
ReplyDeleteI definitely recommend him.
DeleteIt is so sad to have to cut down a tree but quite fun to watch the experts do it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I hated having to do it but the tree was far too big for my small area. At least I had an expert cut it down.
DeleteHe's done an excellent job of your tree. I can see that he lives up to his name. Love your pictures.
ReplyDeleteYes, apparently for the frangipane he went up in the same way one sees films of people going up coconut trees.
