Have been thinking of getting a bike for a while and when I noticed one on "Grab One" I took the plunge. As Doug has a "significant birthday" coming up soon his family then bought him one.
They duly arrived and Doug assembled them this morning. Due to the heavy rain I didn't go to his place to "supervise" but did take him some lunch and had a look at the nearly completed bikes then.
He has now finished the assembly and, he tells me, road tested both bikes. It must be 55 years since I was last on a bike so it will be interesting. Hopefully there will be a break in the weather for me to try it out. The forecast is not looking good with Monday being the only fine day in the next ten.
Ow Wow!!! Pale duck egg blue, a cane basket, and a comfy seat, what more could a girl want? Lovely to get your phone call today. Hope you don't get too much rain up North.
ReplyDeleteWe may not get too much - it had eased when I spoke to you and we have not had any more. Busy morning tomorrow with the market etc but , if it is fine, I may get to try the bike in the afternoon. Sunday is out as we are heading towards Dargaville to meet Doug's two great-grandbabies. One is arriving from Perth tomorrow.
DeleteGood on you both! ... and what I like is that you have bikes that you can sit up on and see where you are going AND the scenery, so many bikes sold in NZ have you face down staring at the tar seal.
ReplyDeleteI have been biking for a few years now and are even more enthusiastic since the Town Basin 'Loop Walk' has been completed. I have a bike rack that I use to get my bike to interesting places to ride (or if I don't want to ride back up Parihaka). There are also a number of new bike paths being developed which extend the Loop Walk / Ride out to Onerahi!
Might see you cycling around sometime when the weather improves : > )
There are also plans for the new bike track from Kamo to town alongside the railway. To start with it will just be around some quiet, flat streets in Tikipunga.
DeleteI should think riding down Parihaka could be quite scary.
It will be interesting to see how I go after 55 years!!!!!
Ah! my suspicions were right - love your baby blue bike, I foresee lots of lovely trips ahead of you both.
ReplyDeleteYou may have a wobbly ride at first, but you will get the hang of it quickly. Enjoy! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteNice looking bikes (congrats to those who guessed correctly). My cycling days are sadly over; dodgy knee.
ReplyDeleteVery impressed.
ReplyDeleteSuch bravery! I am very impressed. I too haven't been on a bike for many decades. Though I would love to have a go...keep us informed of your progress! BTW, my squash seeds arrived safely, along with some bonus lily seeds. Haven't planted them yet, I have to find exactly the best place for them.
ReplyDeleteYes, I also got bonus lily seeds with the squash.
DeleteIn between showers i had my first ride on the bike. Tried it on the lawn which wasn't very successful so went out on the road - unfortunately it started to rain again so the ride was curtailed. Still, I am pleased that I have had my first ride. Doubt if there will be a chance in the next couple of days but we will just have to see.
ReplyDeleteOver to Dargaville way tomorrow and on Monday it is the Parkinson walk in the morning and I must take Kath (the cat in the header) to the vet in the afternoon as she is losing weight and has become very fussy with food.
If I can't fit a ride in then it will be Tuesday. Looking forward to going a bit further.
After he had assembled them Doug had three rides around the loop from his house. First on his bike then mine then his again so he is way ahead of me.
That is exactly the same bike as I have just bought - I haven't had much chance to go out and about on it yet, but when I have been out I have thoroughly enjoyed biking once again. We weren't brave enough to put it together ourselves but took it to our local Halfords who did it for free.
