KERERU or Native Pigeons

The pigeons are in place on their branch.  The large one looks a bit paler in the photo.  Doug was quite keen to paint them but they are made of Corten steel which is designed to rust quickly and can not be painted.

Anyway here is the finished result.

  1. Beautifully rendered. These Kerkeru look very regal.

I just looked up images of Kerkeru. They are a stunning pigeon variety.

    1. They are lovely birds. When Max and I moved down here (to a different suburb) we were thrilled to have them in the garden. Unfortunately, we have not seen any here. If you enter Kereru in the search box at the top there are photos I took from our lounge.

    1. We are thrilled with them. (It also saves Doug making something for that wall. I will let you know when we are heading to Christchurch. We want to do the Trans Alpine at some stage.

  3. They definitely look like Kereru. I think they're very beautiful birds, don't see many of them here.

    1. Yes, they are realistic aren't they. If placed in a tree, as intended, they would look just like the real thing. They are lovely birds.

  4. These are fantastic. I wish I had a blank wall to install something similar.

    1. We have had the blank wall since Doug built the old deck into a sun room. This saves him having to make something to go on it. We love them. If you are interested and put kereru in the search bar at the top you will see the kereru I had in my previous garden. Not the best shots as they were taken from the lounge.
