In 2018 I posted a photo of a Chris Booth Varder Sculpture which is designed to be consumed over time by fungi.
We have seen it several times over the years but were surprised to find this when we had the Parkinson walk there today.
This is the sign that was underneath it.
We had a most enjoyable walk around the gardens. More photos in a day or so.
I understand that people have been climbing on the sculpture?
ReplyDelete(I can't read the sign on my tablet screen)
I hadn't thought about people climbing on it. The sign reads "This is the first stage of soil formation caused by the Dusky Scuttler larvae (oponga omoscopal) with the logs being turned into fine fragments of wood, causing the stack of wood to reduce in size by a half. This decay has occurred in just over 4 years.(I hope I got that right as I am on my cellphone
DeleteIt's a nice idea. I presume the self destruction was intended. Were there any mushrooms?
ReplyDeleteYes, it was intended. Funnily enough I didn't notice any fungi.
DeleteChris Booth is really well known in Northland, he's got some sculptures at Wharepuke and in Kerikeri itself.
ReplyDeleteYes, he does some large Sculptures.
