WAIMAHANGA TRACK WALK

Yesterday we had a lovely walk along the Waimahanga Track.  The weather was fine but chilly (not as cold as at the weekend).  It was my first walk for three weeks as I have had a cough/cold that kept lingering so it was lovely to get out.  Walk was a bit shorter than usual as the leaders decided that the bridge we usually walk to had been moved and they had walked far enough (half an hour each way) and the cafe was calling.

There is a large Puriri tree with little fairy houses.

and just past that a younger (but mature) Puriri

The two "tail enders" apart from me taking photos.

Today I went to pick some Swiss Chard for lunch and was pleased to see how well my Romanesco cauliflowers are doing. There are six of them, luckily all in different stages.  My favourite.

The Pieris is doing well this year.  It seemed to take ages before it started to grow to any height.

  1. Your Cauli looks wonderful, they're one of my favourites; especially in winter. There's always one in the house, usually the ordinary ones.

    1. Have you tried cauliflower mash. I was a bit skeptical but we both liked it (made with the white ones). This one is also referred to as Romanesco brocolli.

  2. Roasted florets, yummy, I put half a cauli,( out of our garden) into a huge soup mix, whizzed the lot, added bacon bone meat, and 2 packets of oxtail soup mix to each huge pot, actually I call the largest one " The Cauldron". That walk looks so inviting, a little warmer here today after Saturday's freeze.

    1. Sounds like a huge amount of yummy soup. I must try roasted cauliflower. Often see it mentioned. Haven't had oxtail for years, must keep an eye out for it.

  3. Colds can hang around in the winter. Glad to hear that you are getting out again.
I love any Cauliflower but Romanescu is a favourite...nutty and crunchy and colourful in a salad
