Whangarei - Colour our City parade

On Saturday Doug and I took part in the first Colour our City Parade.  This was organised by a group who are behind the proposal to convert an uninteresting building at the Town Basin into a Hundertwasser Inspired design.  There is a a lot of controversy and a referendum is being held shortly.  The building is a council owned one.

I am having trouble with the photos but it shows the colour.  Doug and I purchased the wigs halfway along the parade at a variety store.

  1. I was at the parade Susan and probably took photos of you without realising it! Wasn't it a fun and colourful experience? Lets hope the Hundertwasser Project goes ahead...it'll do SO much for our city!

    1. I agree - it will be wonderful but I have a horrible thought that the naysayers will win. The only thought is that their vote will be split between pulling the building down and the maritime thingy.

    2. If you did get a photo of me you can hardly miss it with the blue legs and pink/purple hair or Doug's red hair.

  3. I support the Hundertwasser project 100%.

We the ratepayers through the City council have no problems supporting the building or upgrading of every rugby / cricket / sports ground under the Whangarei sun - So why not have some balance and support the Arts through taking hold of this wonderful opportunity. The comments from every other province is that we would be mad to turn down such an opportunity.

I personally don't think the justification for building it needs to be the idea that it will be some sort of cash cow in terms of tourism to the city (I will be I am sure) rather the justification is that it is good to build community amenities and buildings that enhance our life - this bright, innovative and original building in my opinion will be the icing on the cake of a number of great initiatives that have happened recently - the new lifting bridge, the loop walk and the covered bridge and the proposed cycleways.

I say, "Support the Hundertwasser building!!!!!!!!"

    1. Just grabbed what I could find quickly &, as I said, the wig & boa were bought on the way. It was a nice change to be colorful. Must try it more often - perhaps no to that extent!
