After the Mangungu Mission we visited the Wairere Boulders. A Swiss Couple bought the property which was covered in gorse in 1983 and, as the gorse was cleared, they discovered the boulders. It is fascinating and the boulders are basalt which is not usually known to have fluting as it is too hard.

There is one main walk and two additional smaller walks. We did them all and it took about two hours. In some places one climbed over rocks, in others squeezed between two rocks and others ducked into low holes.
We had to go through here

A really interesting geological landscape to wander through - it has a primeval feel to it.
ReplyDeleteLovely rocks. I'd like some of those here!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting trip. The gap between some of those boulders do look extremely narrow to squeeze through.
ReplyDeleteGreat boulders, lovely when they show age, with moss and that lovely grey shade all over. Cheers, Jean.
ReplyDeleteHi...it's Jane from The Maple Syrup Mob. The spelt flour loaf does contain a small amount of gluten. Do you still want the recipe?

Yes, thanks - I could try one slice and see how it goes and if it doesn't agree someone else is sure to eat the rest of the loaf.
DeleteWould you send me your e mail address and I'll get the recipe to you.
