After our trip on the train we returned to Whangarei via Ruapekapeka Pa which was the site of the last battle in the north 1845-6. see here
This tree was so large I had to take a photo of it's base and then the top.
and home to Kamo. Kawakawa is just a leisurely 45 minute drive from home and we had both driven past many times but had a really enjoyable day.
Nice to see your lovely photos of our part of the country. We went and 'explored' Ruapekapeka once also; as you say, often we just drive on through and don't realise what else there is to see!
ReplyDeleteYes, living in the "Far North" for 40 years we drove past many times and, although we stopped for a coffee at Kawakawa we hadn't seen the other attractions (apart from the toilets of course)
DeleteLovely area Susan, and so good to see old details kept for future generations. Huge trees indeed. Cheers, Jean.
ReplyDeleteYes, we had a great day. Hope things are improving for you.

ReplyDeleteLove Leanne
I was amazed at how much there was to see and do in the Kawakawa area.
DeleteSounds like a great trip. Gosh, those trees are huge. The totem pole looks very impressive. Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteYes, Molly, the bush was wonderful. The whole area was great.
DeleteOne of my Grandsons spent a year in NZ recently and love the place.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on the blackberries, unusually for me I was pleased with them, usually there is something I am not happy with but these turned out perfect.
Lucky you enjoying your summer, we are back to grey clouds and rain here.
