I have been waiting for some Hollyhocks in the garden to flower and was surprised when they turned out to be black. They must have been a punnet of seedlings I bought somewhere but I had no idea they were black. Here they are :
with our first poppy
and the lovely oak leafed hydrangea
the gardenia is in flower
and one of our alstroemeria
How lovely to see colourful, pretty flowers when we are enduring wet, windy weather here. Grey days, foggy days and everything in the garden dripping. Yuk! Those Alstromeria are stunning.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoying summer flowers during our winter.
DeleteI took some seeds from a Black Hollyhock. When I grew them the following year they lost most of their blackness, and became dark purple.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see what comes up next year.
DeleteAmazing color, I have the same but in a bearded Iris. They really stand out.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any Irises but the Hollyhock was a surprise as we expected it to be pink.
DeleteLove that hydrangea. You've got some unusual flowers. The gardenia has masses of flowers, must smell wonderful
ReplyDeleteThat hydrangea is one of my favourites. Yes, the gardenia smells divine. It is doing well this year.
DeleteI am very attracted to black flowers - they add more depth to colourful borders.
ReplyDeleteWe do like the look of it - it was just a surprise.
DeleteWow! I have never seen that. The only black flower that I have seen that color is a pansy. How wonderful to have something so dramatic in your garden.
ReplyDeleteNow we just have to keep it looking good.
DeleteThat flower is stunning. I love it.
ReplyDeleteIt is great isn't it.
DeleteExquisite garden. The black blooms look stunning.
ReplyDeleteWe are pleased with the way the garden is going at the moment.
Deleteyes the alstromerias in my garden are at the point where they are needing a good cutting back they have grown so much.
ReplyDeleteI try to pull them out of the ground one by one as they flower but they usually get ahead of me.
