SEEDLINGS

Yesterday we  received a large box of seedlings.

Each bundle is supposed to have 9 seedlings in it but today I planted the two bundles of mixed Brocolli, Italian Brocolli and Brocoflower and there were 24 plants.  I also planted a bundle of kale and a couple of bundles of pansies in pots.

While I did this Doug got some more beds ready for planting.  I had already cleared some of the tomato plants, dug the last of the carrots and beetroot and picked any beans to dry for seed.

We have been having intermittent rain showers so it is the ideal time to be doing the planting.  We still have leeks, pac choi, silver beet (chard) and coloured beet as well as spinach to plant and more carrots to sow.

We also have to clear away the cosmos in the front garden and we have dwarf cineraria, stock and two varieties of lavender to plant there.

It will all be a bit bare for a while but should not take too long.  We planted a couple of pots of pansy seedlings a fortnight ago and already have flowers on them.

  1. one year I had pansies in tubs, with tulip bulbs. Those pansies flowered from May till September. Your new plants sound wonderful. We will give away some lettuce and silver beet today, the garden beds are overflowing suddenly.

    1. I like to have pots or tubs of annuals to put in the main garden. We ran out of space so there will be a lull in vegies for a while.

  2. Where did you get your seedlings from? Did you buy them online?

    1. Yes, I bought them online from Awapuni. The Warehouse and Bunnings sell them in Whangarei but they don 't always have what I want and often they are a bit old so I prefer online.

  4. The broccoli in the center of the trio snap looks like an art piece, almost. I enjoy the flavor of the Italian variety very much. Happy planting!

    2. Ah, very nice! I think I was thinking of broccoli rabe (rapini), maybe, as the Italian variety.

  5. If it wasn’t for my greenhouse I would still be waiting for the annuals to come into the local nurseries.
