RAIN NEEDED

As we all know Australia desperately needs rain but we could also do with some here.  We have had windy days for what seems like weeks which dries everything out although, luckily, it was not as windy today.  26 degrees today and 27 forecast tomorrow.

In yesterday's paper it said that last year was the driest since 1943 when records began, that is since I was born!!!!!!

Apparently there is no sign of good rainfall in the foreseeable future.  When I looked at the forecast earlier there were rain showers forecast towards the end of the week but they have vanished from the forecast now.  It is affecting farmers, orchardists and market gardeners plus those of us who have gardens.  I hope we don't get a hose ban as we are watering every day and have been for several weeks now.

More rain dances needed.

  1. I think we all need to sink large plastic tanks in our gardens, to preserve whatever rain water falls. It's looking as if worldwide drought could be our downfall.

    1. When the guttering goes up on the new deck area we are going to get a small water tank. We already have three barrels but that is not enough.

  2. Pirate has planned a bike ride tomorrow...just seen rain forecast for us in the morning!! It won't come to much I don't think..and seeing the height of the tide with the full moon I hope we don't get heavy rain

  3. Our weather has been doing its best to "balance the books" lately and the small river that runs through the village is slowly getting back to its normal level. On a world-wide scale however there are huge problems - problems that are going to require us to make a lot more difficult choices than saying No to plastic straws and remembering to recycle our junk mail.

  4. Hope you get rain soon. We have had the wind as well and it certainly dries everything out. I believe you are a lot drier than we are; things are still reasonably green around here.

    1. Some parts still look green here but our lawn is decidedly brown. It all needs a good downpour.

  5. It rained incessantly yesterday. Too bad I couldn't send you some, but I have to say that Australia would be at the top of the list.

    1. Yes, Australia in particular could do with it. N.S.W. actually has some forecast for later in the week. Let's hope it arrives and is widespread.

  8. Looks like that has changed, we've had light rain, nothing major but apparently OZ has some strong rain forecast, fingers crossed they get it.

    1. Yes, we had a good shower in the night that topped up the rain barrels and this morning was a very light drizzle. Great for the garden although no more forecast. and parts of Whangarei didn't get any.

  9. I'm putting on my tap shoes for you over here. I would imagine that your air quality in NZ is adversely affected as well?

May you all be breathing with no issues!

    1. Thank you, we had a good shower overnight and light drizzle this morning which is great for the garden. Yes there has been smoke in the air here but nothing like in Oz.
