QUARRY GARDENS AFTER CYCLONE GABRIELLE

On Sunday we went to the Quarry Gardens to see the damage and also to check if enough is open for us to go there on Monday for our Parkinson walk.

The sculpture above used to be to the right of the photo below.

There was also a bridge going across to it seen in this photo from 2022 after a previous storm.  The bridge has completely gone after Gabrielle

Halfway up this landslide used to be the arid garden and we were told it is not likely to be able to be re-instated.

Looking across the lake still looks the same although I think the "beach" on the far side is a little larger

Below is part of the new shelter built recently in the arid garden and washed down a level.

Once one has gone past the slips the garden is looking good.

This poor tree (a Ficus Dammaropsis) is over half buried

A lovely tropical azalea in bloom.

If you type Quarry Gardens in the search at the top you will see "before" photos.

  1. What a dreadful mess, it's a good thing you don't live in Quarry Gardens.

    1. Yes, glad we don't live on a hill or cliff. The Gardens are in the next suburb so not far away

  4. You can really see the extent of the damage and the great force of nature in these photos clearly. However, it is amazing just how qickly nature can recover from such disasters (along with some hard work from we humans too).

    1. Yes, Rosemary, the photo of the bridge was taken when they were clearing up after a storm last year. It is amazing how quickly things can improve. Nature is wonderful.

  6. So much damage. Weather is so unpredictable now. Here we have tornadoes and a couple of little towns in Tennessee have been about destroyed.

    1. It is shocking isn't it. We have seen the destruction in Tennessee on our News. Now the East Coast that was hit by Cyclone Gabrielle has another Heavy Rain warning for this weekend.
