When Doug moved here at the end of 2008 he brought some water lilies and they have been sitting (languishing) in tubs behind his workshop ever since.
They finally flowered this year so we decided it was time to have a pond for them before they gave up the ghost.
Doug set to building a pond. It was made from 8" x 2" timber and weighed a lot.
He dug a hole, the land is sloping so it needed to be deepish at one end. The next step was to get the pond into the hole which needed some working out but we managed it between us. (both sets of neighbours were away).
Looks good. Nice to have some water in the garden.
ReplyDeleteA big job but very rewarding
DeleteWell made for beautiful flowers. The ends are a nice touch, a place for those pots
ReplyDeleteYes, the ends work well.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fine addition to the garden. I hope the water-lilies appreciate all the trouble you've gone to for them!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a shame if it was too much of a shock for them and they died.
DeleteYou clever people! Hope the water Lillie's thrive
ReplyDeleteWe were pleased with ourselves working out how to get the pond off the sawhorses and into the hole. Hope your sight is improving.
DeleteIt looks good and obviously alot of work went into it. My cats would have fun with that.
ReplyDeleteWe are thinking of getting goldfish. It will be interesting to see what happens with the neighbourhood cats then.
DeleteDoug, you could patent that design, it is superb.
ReplyDeleteIt gradually evolved but we are pleased with the result.
DeleteWater is always such a welcome addition to any garden, well done Doug! The edges of the pond look a nice place to perch and look at the insects and lilies. (Although I would add a means of exit for anything that wants to climb out!)
ReplyDeleteI think that is on the plan although the pond is not very deep. Our water butts all have ladders.
