RAINFALL

It has, obviously, been a very wet year here. NIWA (the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) has just released the figures for the first half of 2023.

They list 11 areas that have had more than the yearly average in the first six months of the year and we are included with 1526 mm of rain.

Kaikohe which is 87 km from us has had an amazing 2140 mm which is 130% of its normal annual rainfall in the first six months

It is raining again today.  Hopefully the  La Nina weather pattern is going to change to El Nino and the weather should improve.

  1. We are having swimming weather in the afternoons, then thunder storms at night; like last night. It makes the grass grow like crazy.

  3. I was reading a couple of days ago that the scientists believe our weather pattern is now changing back to El Nino. Time will tell if they are right or not :)

  5. Some rain is something that we need here, we definitely haven't had very much, just the odd day here and there.

    1. That's because it's all coming here. Someone on the walk yesterday has a rain gauge which has measured over 2 meters in the first 6 months here in Whangarei.
