KUMARA (SWEET POTATO)

In spring Doug grew some "slips" from an old kumara we had and we planted them at the back of the flower garden as well as in a tub.

Yesterday, we harvested them.  There were only a few plants and, although we did not get a lot of kumara, we are pleased with what we got.

We still have half a box of potatoes, mainly my favourite, Agria but some Cliff's Kidney.  We are very pleased with our vegetable garden this year.  It is time to get more in the ground for winter.

  1. I would be so happy with that, kumara are sometimes so expensive. I used some in the pumpkin soup yesterday.Your own home grown is always the best

    1. It will be interesting to see how expensive they are this year, it is still early days. After being devastated last year things should improve.

  2. I tried growing some once, but failed. Courgettes again this year, they're the only thing that will give a good crop in the short time we have.

  4. Thank goodness we get orange sweet potatoes which remind me of kumara. They've always been pricier than potatoes and thank goodness haven't got more expensive.

    1. Kumara were really expensive last year as the fields were under water with Cyclone Gabrielle. Doug's youngest daughter is going to drop off 3 kg of orange kumara on Saturday.
