On 19 September 1893 the governor, Lord Glasgow, signed a new Electoral Act into law. As a result of this landmark legislation, New Zealand became the first self-governing country in the world in which all women had the right to vote in parliamentary elections.
On Saturday there will be a "Suffrage Strut" hosted by the
Krakens Lair (Steampunk Whangarei).
Everyone should always vote; it should be obligatory.
ReplyDeleteWe live still in a democracy and not in North Kotea.
DeleteSuffrage strut, the mind boggles.
ReplyDeleteI have got the vote here in Greece and always vote though next year it is going to be a hard choice. All the parties seem to little but rhetoric, propaganda and corruption
more than 30 years ahead of the uk....NZ leading the way xx
ReplyDeleteI also make sure to vote in all elections. The women who came before us fought hard for this right and now we just take it for granted.
ReplyDeleteWow! NZ was ahead of the curve. How wonderful.
