KERIKERI

Yesterday was a beautiful day and we set off on the hour long trip to Kerikeri.  We stopped at a cafe and garden centre for a cuppa then went on to Roland's Wood.  I have written about this before.  It was created by Roland Sansom and bequeathed to the people and dogs of Kerikeri - it is a wonderful dog walking park.  see here

There were lots of dogs and their owners enjoying the park and we had a walk around before sitting on a bench and eating our lunch.

  1. BLUEBELLS galore, but the beautiful flowers on the tree? Not sure what type this is. We have almost summer's days down here.

  4. I'm not sure that he's exactly recreated an English beechwood as the link seems to suggest, but he's certainly planted something of great beauty and usefulness for the local community. A lovely place to wander for you, and a welcome reminder of Spring for us on this side of the globe.

  5. Let's face it, even if he planted a beechwood as it is "back home" it would take hundred's, if not thousands, of years to grow to the stage of the wonderful woods over there. One would not see the paulownias, clivias, renga renga lillies etc. in a beechwood.Still, it is a lovely place and the only one I know of in this part of the country at least with a large planting of bluebells.

  6. I think that is one of the most splendid bluebell displays I have ever seen. We have quite a few in Owl Wood, but it takes years for them to spread that far!

    1. You don't see many bluebells here. Roland started the planting in 1985.
