PATAUA NORTH

On Sunday, after going to Tahi, we drove a couple of hundred metres to Pataua North, a pleasant beach-side community.

Just before we got to the beach we passed this young girl carrying an inflatable pink flamingo on her head and then watched as she got it down to the beach, lay on it for a while before going into the sea.

  1. I'll bet that that girl had a really enjoyable day at the beach!

    1. I am sure she did. The wind was blowing inland which was good - no chance of her being blown out to sea.

  2. That grass looks very parched in photo 1. I hope the girl had a machine to inflate the Flamingo; it always takes us hours even for a Crocodile.

    1. Yes, very parched and the fire danger is now extreme. Yes, I am sure someone would have had a pump for the flamingo.

  3. We see those huge flamingos all over the place here. On the front of yachts, tied on to car roofs. Fun for kids

    1. It looked lovely seeing her walking along the road with it on her head.

  4. It is beautiful there. I have visited with my friend a few times and always love it. That is a big flamingo!

    1. No, although we are seeing more items made from bamboo and hemp these days thank goodness.

  6. I remember the dangers of inflatable lilos, so would be worried if a child of mine took something like that out to sea. I was glad the wind was blowing inshore for her.

    1. Yes, we were concerned but at least the wind was blowing inshore and there were a lot of people on the beach and in the sea. (or a lot for here anyway).

  7. I wonder where she got it from? Apparently there was a news story not so long ago about lilos taking people out to see. They were an "in thing" when I was growing up though. I"m guessing you and Doug are hoping for rain there too? We haven't had any since last November so we are getting desperate here.
