There was a stall selling both pineapples and bananas so I took the opportunity to ask about cutting the flower off the stem. There has been a bit of a "discussion" as to whether we should remove the flower or not. We were told that it is best to remove it so did this earlier today. I then cut the flower up for mulch around the plant although, apparently, they can be eaten. Will have to look into that for future flowers.
Anyway, we bought a small locally grown pineapple (there were larger ones). It smells divine.

After the trip to the Growers' Market we went home for breakfast then went back to town to go to the Library. Two things in the one day and we were both ready for a siesta after that.
This is the first bunch after having the flower cut off.
I hope you both soon recover your strength - meantime, just take it easy and pace yourself (not an easy lesson, I had to learn it when I suffered from cancer).
ReplyDeleteThinking of you both, Mxx
Thank you. Not so hard at the moment as we just don't have any energy but something we must continue with.
DeleteSue, you and Doug just need to rest, and rest, and do it all over again. As a friend would say, who isn't at all good at anything like that " Boring, boring" . Thank goodness you have a book or two to read, and fresh veges and fruit too. Take care, looking forward to the news that your energy levels have come up to a better level.
ReplyDeleteThe front that was forecast arrived overnight and we have wind and rain with thunder forecast for this afternoon. It is forecast for the whole week. Good in that we don't feel the need to go out and work in the garden and can just rest up and relax. Take care.
DeleteI have a dark leafed Banana plant (in France), but I'm not expecting any fruit.
ReplyDeleteThere is a smaller Abyssinian Banana here which does not fruit but looks lovely.
DeleteHow wonderful to have bananas in your back yard. I've often thought about planting a pineapple. Must look into it, and first find my pineapple
ReplyDeletePineapples in the shops here have their tops removed but the ones from the market still have them on and, of course, are grown in our climate.
DeleteThat cross section is a beautiful image
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely.
DeleteIn india we make amazing recipes with that cross section flower of banana . Try searching vaazhaithandu poriyal in YouTube .
ReplyDeleteThank you for that. It sounds interesting.
DeleteI never thought about growing the tops of pineapples but I guess if you can do it with carrots and other such foods then maybe anything is possible
ReplyDeleteI gather you can get pineapples on them.
DeleteVery interesting about the bananas and pineapples. Hope you get a good crop.
