STILL HERE

We are both triple vaccinated and Covid was milder than I expected.  That said, it is hanging in there.  Our symptoms were that of a "common cold" - coughing, sneezing, headache and sore throat.  We had heard about the tiredness and it is extreme.  Luckily, with Doug having it first, he was able to do the essentials like getting meals when I didn't have the energy or inclination.

What I was surprised and pleased to find was the care available though the Covid Support.  Daily calls from a doctor or nurse or even both on the same day.  I was sent a Pulse Oximeter to check my oxygen levels.  We were also asked whether we needed help with getting medications or food and any other necessities.

The isolation period was 7 days but we have not felt up to going out as we are still coughing and sneezing plus after any small exertion we are exhausted.  However, we hope to get to the Growers' Market in the morning.

Everyone has been willing to help.  Neighbours gave us a bag of goodies, avocado, bananas, apples, nuts, and a smoothie plus offered to get us anything we needed.

However on Wednesday we got a Supermarket order delivered as, after nearly 3 weeks without a shop, there was rather a lot to ask people to get for us.  Yesterday, I managed to make some meatballs which were very tasty.

So, we are managing but it feels as though Covid will be here for a while.

  1. What a horrible illness this is, and all due to carelessness in some Chinese laboratory. They now say that one in thirteen people in the UK are infected. Good to hear that your friends are helping.

  2. The same help and advice ….from the government covid dept(right down to the oximeter) was available here (Melbourne) when my daughter’s family came down all in the same week.
Luckily she has a large freezer and store cupboard so they coped with food until someone was able to shop. I dropped fresh bits and pieces at the door but she said they didn’t feel like eating so asked me to hold off for a while.
Hope you both come good soon

    1. That's interesting to know about Melbourne. We also have a well stocked freezer and still had vegies in the garden.

  3. That's so good that you get care during the illness. I'm glad to hear you're coming out of isolation. Hope your energy levels increase and the sneezing stops

  4. That is really good care.
Going by Pirate, your energy levels will be low and it will mean do something small every day , very gradually increasing.
After 2 to 3 months you can increase exercise, but the first six months is the danger zone for blood clots and strokes and for triggering long covid by overdoing things.
As himself said, not good news when you are in your eighties. But still worth heeding the advice, which he is.

On a positive note, we are enjoying meeting more Kent rellies..even if it does mean too much driving!

    1. At least at the moment we are not able to do much. Long Covid sounds terrible.

    2. It is. We have at least two friends with it, one was pressurised to return to work...then picked up meningitis...still pressurised back...now can only work three days a week and one hand still isn't working properly. She is a very good hospital podiatrist who got transferred to work in a covid ward when her health wasn't 100% anyway....now they might medically retire her

    3. That does not sound good. We will have to take care. At least the weather is ideal for lounging around.

  5. I am pleased that you have both got safely through this episode of having covid and are now on the mend. I do believe that it is best to take things steady and not try to rush things along.
I don't know how we have managed to avoid getting it as so many people appear to have succumbed. Having said that I am now touching wood in the hopes that we stay that way.

  6. I popped in to see how you and Doug were doing. I am so sorry to read what you two have been going through. Thankfully, you are both on the mend. The fatigue is terrible and I do hope that returning to “normal” will come soon. With a little help from our friends, we get by.

You are both in my thoughts and heart.

  8. What a relief you and Doug were both vaccinated - things could have been much worse. Very glad to hear you are both recovering. Take it easy, and don't try and do too much.
    Sending hugz, Mxx
