REOTAHI

Today's walk was at Reotahi and, after days of rain it was a beautiful day.  We met at Onerahi and carpooled from there.

The Pohutukawa flowers (also know as New Zealand Christmas tree because of its red flowers) was flowering well.

Another plant in full flower was the Flax

The walk takes you along the coast to Little Munroe Bay below. It was high tide so we didn't venture on to the beach

The weather stayed fine all day and Doug even managed to get some more palings on the fence in the afternoon.  At 9 p.m. it is still 18°C. very pleasant.

Rosemary: very similar to bottlebrush but the flowers are round.

  1. That was a cracker of a walk!
No rain here in Blenheim. Just hot!
I suppose that rain is a good thing, keeping the water supplies and groundwater topped up

  3. I looked up Pohutukawa flowers as I wasn't sure what they looked like. They appear to be very similar to my Callistemon citrinus - bottlebrush tree.

    1. Yes, quite similar although the pohutukawa has round flowers. I have posted another photo.

  4. Love the flora of NZ. I may have mentioned this before, but I'm able to enjoy some of what NZ has to offer in terms of greenery by visiting our local arboretum. Your walk must have been very lovely.

  5. We have that same Flax at the bottom of our steps. I keep thinking that I should collect some seeds.

    1. It should grow well from seed. We have some that flowered early in the park behind us and it is in seed.
