TODAY'S WALK

Today we decided to do a slightly longer walk.  We started the same way going to the main road, down the hill and along Paranui Valley Road to A.H. Reid Park.  Then, instead of walking along the river to the Whangarei Falls we went through the Park, along the boardwalk to the Paranui Falls  at the other side of the Park.

By coincidence we arrived at the Park at the same time as Doug's daughter and great-granddaughter so they joined us for the boardwalk before returning to their car while we continued on.

One of the stairs we went up

to get to the Paranui Falls

We then headed up Clapham Road

and then a rough track until we met up with Sands Road, someone had painted these birds on their fence.  A pukeko, a tui and a kingfisher.

Looking back toward Clapham Road

This brought us to the Glenbervie Road and it was a short walk back to the Whangarei Falls and home.  According to Samsung Health we walked just over 7.5 kms in about two hours.  A very pleasant stroll.

  1. It is great to see you walking with the children. I hope they will develop an abiding love of nature.

    1. Doug's daughter has only just moved here and grand-daughter and family are moving once they sell. We now have two great-grandchildren here which is great. Kowhai is a great walker and loves nature.

  2. It looks like a lovely walk, especially since you met up with family but, oh my gosh, those stairs are daunting. I am sure that I would run out of breath at half way up.

    1. I keep pushing myself. At our weekly gym sessions I go up and down the stairs 8 times as extra exercise which makes these steps easier.

  3. I don't think I've been to that waterfall, will tell the other half about it.

    1. There are so many waterfalls here. Have you been to the Taheke Falls further along Whareora Road.

    1. Yes, the birds were lovely. I like stairs for exercise.

  5. Walking yes, stairs no - unless there was no other way to reach the Paranui Falls.
(I hope you are not one of those people who think extra excercise will help them lose weight,or something like that, because it definitely won't).
