THE DROUGHT WORSENS

We hear in the news that the Army has now been called on to deliver water further north.  To start with to community facilities and marae in the Kaitaia area but possibly other areas later.  The coastal aquifers north of us are also getting dangerously low.

I also read this morning that when the milk tankers leave Whangarei to collect milk they will be carrying water and then returning with milk.  What a great idea.  I have noticed a lot of water tankers around here in the last weeks also some flat top trucks with a tank on top.

On Tuesday Doug and Gillian went for a walk to see the Whangarei Falls.  There is still a fair amount of water going over but is quite a difference between Tuesday (above) and August (below).

Yesterday we went to Mair Park where it was lovely and cool (and green).  Two views from the bridge.

  1. Beautiful scenes in your photos showing precious water. I am sad to hear the drought is continuing.

  2. I notice on my meteo chart, that we are into a week or more of rain; in fact it's raining now. I cross the nearby River Lot several times each week (4), and it recently went down by about two metres. I think they must have opened some flood gates somewhere, as it hasn't yet risen again to it's normal level again.

  6. We seem to have had rain almost every day so far this year and there's serious flooding in parts of the country. I hope that when your rains come it's in manageable amounts.

  7. the other half was in Whangarei the other day in a meeting and he said he saw a massive army tanker making it's way to Kaitaia and Kaikohe with water, at least we have tank water but I feel for those who have run out.

    1. I haven't seen the army but while waiting for the bus we saw a flatbed truck converted to a water carrier.
