We phoned the vets and I sat with Kim until we took her in at 11.45. Unfortunately, Natalie, the vet had not been told why Kim was there and, when she asked it was all I could do to say Euthanasia. Both Natalie and Andrew are lovely people and great vets and Kim just went to sleep quietly. She is now buried here in the garden.
Max and I chose Kath (in my header photo) and Kim in May 2005 and they were a few months old at the time so Kim would have been 16. We had been through a lot together with Max getting dementia, then going into care and finally his death. Max chose Kath and I chose Kim and Kath was always his cat and Kim mine. As usual, she slept on the bottom of my bed last night and only came up to give me a purr once she knew I was awake.
There is a big void - R.I.P my faithful friend.
God bless Kim. Sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Doc. She was great company.
DeleteI'm so sorry. A lot of your history was shared with Kim. This is a hard time.
ReplyDeleteTime is a great healer but it is hard right now.
DeleteSorry to hear this. Our Freddy died in the night; I still miss him. He used to sleep on the bed too, usually under my chin.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteOh poor you guys, thinking of you here. I know the last cat we lost was buried with a Camellia tree.
ReplyDeleteMy other cat, Kath, is buried under a pohutakawa in Kamo. Over the years many others.
DeleteI've never had a cat but I can imagine how upsetting that must be for you. I have a very ancient cat that comes to find peace and quiet in my yard when his people have the grand-children round and I will certainly miss his presence when one day he calls around no more. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you John.
DeleteSorry to hear about Kim. She was a loving companion.
ReplyDeleteWe had been through a lot together.
DeleteKim has left you with loving memories, and that decision is always So hard. Remember your times together over many years. Hugs and a heap of love as the gap that seems so enormous will gradually fill with memories amid the tears.XXX
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean. Time will heal but, right now, it is very raw
DeleteLoosing a much loved animal is always distressing - Kim was a faithful little friend to you for many years.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosemary. It was a hard decision but the only one for her sake.
DeleteSusan, I am so sorry. It is so hard to lose our beloved pets. My Wheezer, who looks just like your Kath is also 16 and I wonder how much longer we will have her.
ReplyDeleteIt is always hard isn't it. We have known for a while that she was going downhill and I keep telling myself it was for her own good. House seems empty as it is only a month since we lost Sophie. I hope your Wheezer keeps in good health for a while longer.
DeleteYou have done the hardest but the most honourable thing for your loyal companion. I feel very sorry for your loss, they give so much joy over the years that it is so very hard to lose them.
ReplyDeleteIt was the only decision that could be made in the circumstances. Thank you for commenting.
DeleteIt's good to read that you have kind vets. Long-lived, dear pets are a lovely reminder of the past. -very sorry for your loss. x
ReplyDeleteYes, Bea, the vets are lovely. When I first moved here I went to vets at the end of the street and used to put the cats in their cages in a wheelbarrow and take them - quicker than getting the car out. Every time it was a different young vet. When I met Doug he suggested these other vets. It makes a huge difference. When we "lost" Sophie a month ago they suggested we return the unused expensive pills for a refund.
DeleteI am sorry to read that, Susan. You will miss her but she will always be in your heart. Sending you big hugz, Mxx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margaret. She kept me company during some hard times when Max had dementia and then went into care.
