Our last Parkinson's walk was to the Whau Valley Dam and we were pleased to see that it is now full. There had been worry earlier that it would not be full before the start of summer but all the rain we have had has filled it nicely.
On the way to the dam we passed the new $30 million water treatment plant which will increase the capacity of water treated a day to 22 million litres from 15 million. Photo from the Council website
That's a lot of water to be treated, guess it is all needed.
ReplyDeleteThe old plant was built in the 1950's and I know it struggled with the sediment after last years floods.
DeleteOur local man-made lake is overflowing. It was built by local farmers, and as they've had no use for its contents this year, it is now full to the brim!
ReplyDeleteWhere does your drinking water come from?
DeleteA natural spring about 3 kms away.
DeleteThat sounds good.
DeleteReservoirs always look so much more attractive when they are full - and it's comforting to know there'll be enough to last through the summer.
ReplyDeleteYes, and this is a very attractive one. We hope there will be plenty of water. The way the climate is changing one never knows.
DeleteThat's good news for you. I bet our reservoirs are getting low.
ReplyDeleteHope the water lasts through your summer
That is good news. Rivers and lochs here have been very low and even with the latest rain are not much up.
ReplyDeletewow very cool, my cousins use to live on Whau Valley Road many years ago.
