SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS, N.S.W.

I have mentioned before that my stepdaughter lives in the Southern Highlands between Sydney and Canberra and that they have had a major drought for what seems like years.  It is getting really serious.  Yesterday she told me they had rain forecast and this morning I received an email that they woke to SNOW  and that the gauge had 20 ml of rain and the rest was snow.  It will be great if they get some more rain but it will take a lot to break the drought.

It is, of course, spring here in the Southern Hemisphere.

  1. It must be a relief for your step-daughter to have snow in her area. The photos show a lovely scene.

    1. It turned to rain and rain was forecast for the whole day but I have not heard whether they got it or not. It all looks so different to the burnt grass that was visible before.

  2. I really hate snow. Luckily we haven't had any for a few years.

    1. At least when it melts it gives some water for the parched land.

  3. How very strange! Snow yes, rain no.
Snow is quite a photogenic element, and the pictures of it are beautiful!

    1. There is a lot of snow further down the North Island and in the South Island but this is Australia.

  5. At least the snow should melt into the ground and provide the soil with some moisture.

    1. Yes, and they had just planted a large number of Allocasuarinas for some birds whose name I can't recall and Gang Gang cockatoos.

  6. how welcome, and the melt will give good moisture. We take rain as normal over here, and I cannot imagine how hard it must be to live in drought conditions for years. Love the doggie having fun.

    1. Yes, any moisture is a help. The larger dog they have only had for a week or two. All the dogs ran around in the snow.

  7. It's always a worry to be running short of water, now that we are on water tanks no doubt we will be the same over Summer.
