It is nearly 3 months since I was put on Metformin for my diabetes (I was diagnosed in 2000). The G.P. wanted me to take 2 tabs a day but I agreed to one with a blood test and review after three months. I had the blood test on Monday and saw a new G.P. on Friday. I have been extremely tired and lightheaded and, without my asking, she suggested stopping the Metformin as my blood sugar levels have been stable for years and are around the 40 mark. She also suggested stopping the small dose of aspirin that older people are prescribed here and the statin I was taking.
I was really pleased with this and go back at the beginning of December after another blood test to see how things are progressing. Exactly what I was hoping for.
This morning we went back to the Growers' Market which was wonderful. I much prefer being able to choose the vegetables I buy rather than get a box full. We got there at about 6.30 a.m. and it was much busier than usual. We then went to the supermarket where only one person is allowed in. I only had a few minutes to wait before it opened at 7 a.m. and there were about half a dozen of us waiting.
We had just got home when Doug's youngest daughter arrived with a paper for us and stopped for a cuppa, consequently, we ended up having a late breakfast and have not worried about lunch even though I cooked a pot of mince.
Tonight the clocks go forward for Summer time so next week it will be dark when we get up to go to the market.
Have you worked out how to save daylight? Wonderful to be able to go to the market and choose. I wonder how the Teddies are doing today, guess they will come up with some wonderful new sayings.
ReplyDeleteI didn't go past the teddies today but the messages were the same yesterday. It makes me laugh when people say they are getting more daylight, I don't know where from. Vegies were great.
DeleteI take two Metformin a day, and often wonder if I could do without them. If you can control Diabetes with your diet, it is much preferable.
ReplyDeleteI reckon I've been doing it for just over 20 years so I can keep doing it.
DeleteI was wondering when your clocks changed...and ours too!
ReplyDeleteIt affects what time Pirate phones NZ friends!!
Nice to be able to keep healthy by diet.
Same here. I phoned Wales last night.
DeleteGreat news about the medications. Our clocks don't revert to GMT till the end of October - how on earth do airlines manage to schedule flights across the globe?
ReplyDeleteYes, it must get really complicated. I wish THEY would just leave the time alone and not mess with it.
DeleteGood news about the meds. All those fresh veges help I'm sure. We dont go off summer time till the end of October and I wonder if there will be a change this year. 'They' are talking about abolishing it. It would mean darker mornings but at least the day-light would be a bit longer.
ReplyDeleteI hope I can keep off the meds. Every year there is talk about doing away with Daylight Savings but that is as far as it goes.
DeleteSo many people are on drugs that are not needed. I was reading about the fact that people are on them for years and never checked by the Dr. All drugs have side effects so its good that you are able to leave them off. I swear that Tom's lung problem was caused by 20 years on a certain drug.

It seems easier for the doctors to just do repeat prescriptions all the time. Sorry about Tom and his problems. Hugs.
DeleteI wish all doctors were like your new one. So many of them seem to prescribe drugs almost willy-nilly. One doctor told my hubby that he HAD to take a certain med in case he ended up in hospital with the issue - because if that happened, then the hospital would blame the doctor for not having given it to his patient!! No thought about what was best for the patient.
ReplyDeleteCrazy.
Keep enjoying those vegetables :)
I have heard that before about doctors having to prescribe because they would get blamed if the patient ended up in hospital. Although I referred to her as a G.P. and she is the "G.P." I am enrolled with she is actually a Nurse Practitioner. I may even take half of my blood pressure tabs before seeing her in December and see how that goes. I have only been taking a half of the cholesterol tabs but am glad to be stopping them.
DeleteWell done for controlling your diabetes by eating a sensible diet - much better for you than tablets.
ReplyDeleteYes I have kept control for 20 years without tablets and hope to for another 20.
DeleteI think B is on the same medication. We haven't been to our local markets, it always looks so busy when we drive past.
ReplyDeleteI expect it got busy later but at 6.30, although busier than usual it wasn't too bad.
DeleteGlad to read that the new GP is a help. I wouldn't want to take meds unless absolutely necessary.
ReplyDeleteNow I have to make sure I work to keep my levels right without the drugs.
