MAY 6th 2023

Obviously, it is King Charles III Coronation today (although I don't think the actual crowning will take place until tomorrow our time so I will be watching a repeat later on).

What I do remember is watching the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.  My aunt who lived two doors down from us bought a television especially for the big day so we watched it at her house. I particularly remember the then young Prince Charles with his grandmother looking down on his mother being crowned.

I also remember the Coronation Tea held in Godstone Road.  My parents bought me a very nice replica of the Coronation coach but I never thought to bring that with me when I came to New Zealand and have not seen it since.  There was also a replica of the Throne with the Stone of Scone which was given to my brother.

I think King Charles will be a good King.  Last night we watched The Repair Shop King Charles Special and he does seem very down to earth.

There is also another celebration for today.  It is our 6th Wedding Anniversary.  When one re-marries late in life one is never sure how many years you will have together but I suppose that is the case even if one is younger.

  1. I was trying to think where it was that we watched the Coronation. Thank you for reminding me.

    Happy Anniversary!

  2. Happy Anniversary to you both, and I,too, will be watching later. 11p.m. or later is a tad too late for me.

    1. I am not sure what time the actual Coronation takes place but I very much doubt I will still be watching. Thank you for your good wishes.

  3. Happy Wedding Anniversary... have a wonderful day - maybe with some pictures from King Charles' coronation ceremony too.
Long live... as we say here... three times high high high.
    A hug from Viola
(p.s. I'm watching TV right now - it's 11:25 am here - it's very touching... 200 horses... both in white Charles and Camilla... until 2002 it wasn't possible for divorced people to remarry, so that there was a change in the law and now comes the coronation)

    1. Thank you Viola. We watched until 10.30 p.m. and will watch the rest this afternoon. Not used to watching so much television and my eyes could not cope with any more.
