It was also the day for the Operatunity Concert and we got back just as it was starting. Today's concert was Christmas at the Proms and it was just as good as all their other concerts that we have been to. It incorporated songs such as There'll Always be an England, I Vow to Thee My Country, It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Jerusalem, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah, Pie Jesu, O Holy Night, Rule Britannia, Pomp & Circumstance, Land of Hope and Glory and Feliz Navidad plus lots of other songs and general entertainment.
We thoroughly enjoyed it. As I had an osteopath appointment afterwards we headed straight into town and had lunch at le Bistro de Paris. A very pleasant day.
I hope the young bird survives, although once exposed to the bacteria in a cat's mouth it often does not. It is impossible to overstate the carnage wrought by outdoor cats. They are nothing short of a plague.
ReplyDeleteThe bird did not appear to have any sign that it had been in a cat's mouth - we can only assume that it had. Kim is able to go outside during the day (although she is mainly indoors) but she is locked in at night.
DeleteWhat a great selection, and " I vow to thee, my country" was sung at Diana's funeral, and was it also at their wedding? I would so like to have something like that down here in the daytime. Most concerts in Palmerston North, about 40 minutes from us, are at night.Bird rescue, they do a wonderful service.
ReplyDeleteI see they go to Palmerston North. I have emailed a link.
DeleteYes, the bird rescue does a wonderful job. Mainly kiwi and kereru but other birds as needed
Thanks so much for the link, I will get an email with their next programme.
DeleteI am so pleased that you managed to rescue the little blackbird and hope that the people at the Bird Rescue manage to save it, and release it back into the wild again.
ReplyDeleteThe Bird Rescue centre is in the middle of a lovely park. Our little blackbird will be in an enclosed area until big enough to be set free.
DeleteA good day indeed
ReplyDeleteyes.
DeleteOh to be somewhere at Xmas where I can hear a Xmas concert. The last time must have been in 2004 at the place my folks were living.
ReplyDeletewas that here in N.Z.?
DeleteSounds like you had a very enjoyable day :)
ReplyDeleteCats aye? Mr Cat regularly brings birds and skinks inside, yesterday she bought in a green finch, luckily it was still alive so we let it go.
