DAY 4 LOCKDOWN

We have started to carry 3kg weights on our morning walks now.  This morning on our 1.5km walk we met just one lady twice - she was walking the same route in the opposite direction.  As it is Sunday and we usually go to the gym so we had a gym session on the back deck.  No machines but we could do the floor exercises, steps, skipping, sit ups, etc.  Our aim is to do this every day - we will see.

Just before we did the exercises I put some vegetables on to roast - pumpkin, kumara, potato and garlic and then when we finished I put a ready made gluten free pizza in the oven and lunch was ready in no time and delicious.

It is another lovely sunny day although a bit cooler at night an early mornings.  We still need rain as the drought continues,

We have had the first death from Covid 19 in New Zealand, there are 514 confirmed and probable cases with seven in Northland and one in our local hospital.  I just hope the Lockdown does the trick.

The purple climbing beans that I sowed on February 19th have plenty of flowers.  It was a bit late to sow them but I have my fingers crossed that we will get some beans.  Because of the drought there is not much else in the garden but I am hoping to get an order in for some seedlings next Thursday.  Awapuni Gardens where I buy my seedlings are completing orders of a set bundle of seedlings once a week on a first come first served basis.  I missed out last week so will try early on Thursday.

  1. We have three friends in Brighton who think they've had the virus. Luckily it didn't affect any of them badly, but it just goes to show!

  2. Susan check out the program that Les Mills has collaborated with TVNZ, starting tomorrow, 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. probably TVNZ on demand maybe., Free to all, I have started to walk round the block every day, today there was a lady on the other side of the street, she is an essential worker, husband ditto, both are meat inspectors. We chatted, well yelled to each other from a huge distance, then I met the man form yesterday, painted his gate, today weeding among the Californian Poppy flowers outside his hedge. So the 12 minutes stretched into about 25, no wonder Hugh says I can talk to anyone for a long time. Take care, huge sadness on the West Coast, but the "coasters" will rally round with virtual love ,baking and flowers, and messages to the family. We all care and feel so much sadness for them all.

  3. Thanks for that about Les Mills. We will watch and try and follow, hadn't heard about it. Yes, it was so sad to hear about the first death. Keep up the walking. We should all be extra fit at the end of this.

  4. Everyone should take this opportunity to reconnect with nature to the greatest extent possible. Perhaps then we might stop abusing the earth so badly.

    1. As we are only allowed to walk around our neighbourhood we are not able to connect with nature as much as usual. Not complaining though as we can still get a walk, do some exercises and have lots of trees around here.
