UPDATE

I sent an email to King's Seeds where I was trying to buy some vegetable seeds and have just had a reply telling me  to use their address on the order then mine for the delivery address.  I did and it worked.  They also asked

PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE EXPERIENCE A PHENOMENAL NUMBER OF ORDERS THIS WEEK 😊

I had begun to think that they had closed down.  So that will give us something to do over this period.  It has been quite cold today, a high of 18 degrees, Doug has been sorting out fertiliser in one of the sheds.  A lot of packets have been discarded or spread around and others put in tidy order.

Doug heard on talk back radio that supermarkets are doing internet shopping for the elderly and sick so will look at that although we have had offers.  Four weeks is not that long and I have more than enough jobs to keep me busy.

One of Doug's daughters phoned this morning - she had been to all three of the local supermarkets and the queues were so long that they left empty-handed.

Keep safe everyone.

  1. I phoned my local Gardening/Pet store yesterday to ask if they were open; and it seems they are. I shall have to go to buy all my vegetable seeds asap.

  2. I am still using the remainder of last years seeds but have ordered some new so won’t be surprised if they don’t come.

  3. I have had emails from two online mail order firms, one closed midnight Monday, Bendon online ordering finishes today I think. Good to know Kings seeds is still doing their bit to keep us occupied. Very articulate words from everyone on the Covid 19 news updates, Ashley Jacinda, Grant and others never falter , give the reporters lots of chances to ask questions, and seem to know almost each one by name. It might be a long time, but we have friends who will do grocery and pharmacy things, I think supermarkets do not want cash payments now. Take care up there.

    1. and you take care Jean. Yes, various family have offered to shop but they are still working so, if we can, we will use the internet.

  4. Thank goodness you can still get your seeds. NZers need their vegetable gardens now. When I was young everyone had their /14 acre and a vegetable plot. I guess things have changed since then but my family especially are all avid gardeners still, from roses to rhubarb. Wish we could get the latter.
Keep your distance and you'll be fine!

    1. I have always had a vegetable garden - when we were in the Far North it was about a quarter acre. The thought of not having one upsets me more than anything else.

  5. I hope your seeds arrive safely. Son bought pansy seedlings yesterday but said vegetable plants were very scarce. Stay safe and keep smiling, Mxx

    1. We have not cleared the flower beds out yet so it is a bit early for us to buy flower seedlings. Of course, by the time we are ready everyone will be in lockdown. I usually buy from Awapuni and they don't seem to have anything available but I can't find any message of a lockdown.

  6. I think that four weeks might easily morph into something a bit longer so be prepared. The same problems here with shopping - and mostly because of people buying ridiculous quantities. I was talking to a farming friend yesterday (easily achieved at a safe distance, as years of working with noisy equipment means that he shouts at you!), he said someone had approached him about buying his remaining stock of potatoes, which he normally sells at the farm gate to regular customers. The buyer was clearly intent on selling them at inflated prices due to the current situation. Needless to say he didn't get the potatoes and was told where to go in no uncertain terms!

    1. John - I like the story of the potatoes - good on the farmer for thinking of his regular customers. Yes, you are right that the 4 weeks will most likely extend but I like to think of 4 weeks at present as it feels more manageable.

  7. I'll bet that there are a lot of orders right now. One of my girlfriends was able to get to the nursery before 'settle in place' was implemented and has just planted a rather enviable selection of garden goodies.
