LOCKDOWN

Things are moving quickly here in New Zealand.  There are now 102 confirmed cases of Covid 19 and we have now moved on to Level 3 alert and on Wednesday will move to Level 4 which is virtually complete Lock down apart from essential services.

Doug's Grand-daughter's wedding on Saturday has had to be postponed.  His two daughters and grand-daughter work for essential services - delivering mail, working in a Rest Home and grand-daughter is a nurse.

Four of us from the Parkinson group had a walk this morning keeping our distance as required but they have stopped from now on.

I am not completely sure exactly what we are able to do under Level 4 - I think we will still be able to go on isolated walks (just the two of us).

After the walk this morning we went to two garden centres to buy seedlings or seeds and there were NO Vegetables at all.  I then tried to buy seedlings on line with no luck but am hopeful of getting some seeds of things like broccoli and swiss chard. Will try and do that later.

We are not sure whether the Growers' Market will continue but hope it will and will go in there first thing in the morning (about 6ish) to get our vegies and eggs if we are allowed.  The supermarket we go to has reduced its hours and now does not open until 9 a.m. to give them time to replenish the shelves.

At least we have plenty of books to keep us occupied - just wish we had some seedlings to plant.

  1. This area is still without incident, but with people heading down from Paris I expect it won't be long. I shall try to get a few essentials this morning, then we'll try to stay home for as long as possible. Only a couple of months ago, all we thought about was Brexit.

    1. At least you have the family there so they can get supplies if needed. We have just had an offer from Grandson and his partner to get us anything we need and leave it on the doorstep as advised.

  2. From what I've seen here the sooner the restrictions are brought in the better as you can't rely on people to behave rationally or even follow simple instructions. I wonder how much contact and unnecessary journeys are the result of people going from shop to shop trying to locate supplies.

    1. No sooner had our Prime Minister made the announcement and asked people not to panic buy the queues were huge.

  3. I hope you can find your seeds. At least being out in the garden will give you fresh air and exercise.
    Hard times!

    1. Found some on line but it won't let me place the order. I suppose the website is overloaded.

  4. What a shame about the wedding, but I think they have made the right decision. How great that your grandson will make sure you have everything you need. There are some wonderful people around :)

  7. PM Ardern does not mess about. I applaud her decisive action. It would be great if someone could leave seedlings on your doorstep for you to plant, then that would be grand.

    1. It would be - there are just none around. Panic buying hit seedlings and seeds first by the look of it.

  8. We went into Lockdown as a country last night (23rd March) so will be interesting to see what happens. Hopefully people will take note and act more responsibly now. Who knows? Scary times ahead I think.

  9. Sue, keep well. This is something we've never ever seen before. UK's in lock down - even had a government text today telling me I must stay at home (as if I didn't know:( The sun is shining and I'm so glad that I've got a garden to go out in. Thank you so much for your comment on my blog site. xxx

    1. Our lockdown starts at 11.59 tonight but we have not been out today and Doug only went out yesterday to get some petrol to mow the lawns. He is not allowed to do that from tomorrow (get the petrol) we must have things delivered to our door. We are allowed to go for a walk on our own keeping away from other people. The lockdown is for four weeks to start with.

Keep safe and well. At least you are in a nice isolated spot.
