While I did this Doug has built the stand for the water tank we were recently given so it has been a very fruitful day.
When Doug's nephew came to visit a month or so ago they gave us a chilly bin full of meat and amongst it was what we thought was a part leg of pork. I got it out of the freezer a few days ago and it was actually bacon so, yesterday, I boiled it. We can't remember the last time we had boiled bacon (before we met for both of us) and it was very good indeed.
Of course, now that we , almost, have the new tank connected we were told last night to expect a wet summer. Not too wet I hope but it will be good if we don't have to water the garden every day.
We can't buy joints of boiling ham here; all such cuts go to charcuterie. I miss them.
ReplyDeleteIt was delicious (had 2 meals so far and 2 more to go)
DeleteAnd the makings of a great soup afterwards!
DeleteTomorrow, the last of the meat will be in a frittata then I will make soup from the stock.
DeleteWell done on the water tank.
ReplyDeleteHe has done a good job - it is good to have it.
DeleteSeems to me it would be a good plan for every home to have a water tank and it should be a de facto part of new construction.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more and solar panels would be a good idea as well.
DeleteI cannot understand why tanks like that are not at every home where water restrictions play a huge part over the summer. Your tank fits in so well on its own stand, gravity feed for the hose too.
ReplyDeleteI think we will get a second one later although we should be all right as far as drought is concerned as the Council is running a new pipeline from the main river to supplement the dams. Ours will be great for a hose as it is in a part of the garden that our two hoses don't quite reach.
DeleteWe like to put bacon bits in soups, adds a nice bit of flavour to it. I think every house should have the option to have a water tank, especially in times of drought.
ReplyDeleteYes, tanks for all houses would be a great idea.
DeleteSounds like you both had a happily productive day yesterday :)
ReplyDeleteand again today - we passed on going to the gym and, after a supermarket shop have spent the day in the garden - a wonderful spring day here.
DeleteGood to see your spring rolling in. Well done on the water tank too.
ReplyDeleteNot so spring like today. Nice day but cold wind.
