ANOTHER PROJECT

The Back Porch (or Back Deck) is a wonderful area used for storage, drying clothes on wet days, sitting and having a cuppa or meal.  The only trouble with it is that on hot days it gets extremely hot due to the clear roof so Doug has decided to put a solid roof on it, plywood underneath, then building paper and iron on top.

While he is doing it he has also decided to extend it to the edge of the deck.

He started today.

Even though we put some shade cloth on top it is still far too hot.  According to the weather on the computer it has been 27 degrees today but feels a lot hotter and was showing in the mid 30's in the Porch.  It is getting hotter earlier than usual and, after the hot summer in the Northern Hemisphere I think we are in for a scorcher.

  1. The problem with our 'au vent', is that we can't keep out the hot setting sun. We really need a screen over the entry, but it would look horrible.

    1. You will have to put your design cap on and design a good looking screen.

  2. We have a clear roof on the big bacjk verandah, and I might do what friends did under their glass patio roof, and hang calico or thicker white fabric, in loops, at least on part of it. And, I too, find it is wonderful for the clothes line. From now on, things dry overnight, and I can bring them in by 9 a.m.!!!

    1. I had a large sunscreen under the roof on my previous house but it was still hot. Just hope this works. At 7 p.m. my phone showed 30 degrees which is really hot for this time of year. Hope all is going well at your place.

  3. A big project, I hope all goes smoothly. It's turning cooler here now and it's already difficult to recall how hot it got on a few days this summer.

    1. Yes, I think it is a bigger project than the Sunroom in the middle of last year.

  4. Tuesday was very hot here as well. It felt much hotter than what the weather-man was saying.

  5. It's been boiling here, it got to about 23 deg inside our house, I dread to think what it was like outside.
