HARVEST

The vegetable garden has done really well this year and we just harvested our first Italian Precoce Broccoli although it is also called Romanesco cauliflower here.  Either way, we are very pleased with the crop - there will be another five to harvest.  The purple broccoli are also doing well and I have been harvesting the odd side shoot .  We have also been harvesting broccoli, pak choi, chard and spinach.

It is Father's Day today and Doug's youngest daughter has just been here for a meal (roast chicken).  Next Sunday is Doug's birthday and he had requested that I cook roast Lamb but his daughter wants to take us to a cafe at the Town Basin for a meal so that will be nice.

  1. That is one vegetable that I have never grown! We had some purple broccoli that grew from a stump left from last year, so that was a bonus (finished now).
What a lovely idea of Doug's daughter to take you both out to a meal. I hope he has a great birthday :)

    1. A broccoli grown from last year's stump is a bonus. Ours get pulled out to make way for something else. Thank you, I am sure he will have a good birthday although he reckons he has given up on birthdays.

  2. I always used to grow 'ordinary' broccoli and was amazed by how quickly it created an edible heart. A very good crop for first time growers.

  3. What an unusual broccoli. I've never seen anything like it.

    1. It looks like something from outer space with its pointed heads.

  4. I've seen those vegetables at work but so much nicer to grow them yourself.
