It was a lovely service. When I got down to the gate at about 5 minutes to 6 a.m. there were several other people standing on their frontages. It appears that they had not taken a radio down with them and several thanked me for sharing it.
It was quite dark - there are actually two couples standing at their gates and the round glow is a street lamp.
After breakfast we went for our usual walk around the streets and spotted a lot of poppies people had made from whatever they had on hand - here are a few
This teddy has been there for a while but today was sporting some poppies
.When we got home we had breakfast, caught up with the papers and then I made some flapjacks (oat slice). In spite of the early red skies and cold start it has been a glorious day.

A friend said there were at least 2 people with a bugle at their driveways this morning, too far away for me to hear. No fly over from Ohakea to Waiouru as they normally do, eerily quiet. The link worked fine, thanks for that. No matter that there were not huge combined services, so many would deeply miss the companionship shared there, we will remember them, always.
ReplyDeleteI could hear something playing in the distance.
DeleteOur remembrance day (in France) is on May 8th, but it has been cancelled. No doubt there will be something on radio and TV, but people do like to gather around their monuments; maybe they still will regardless.
ReplyDeleteIt is estimated that a lot more people took part this year. Let's face it, it is much easier on a cold morning to walk to the end of your drive rather than go into town.
DeleteSounds like a great day. With all that is going on we have missed out on a lot of things that we took for granted. But we do what we can with what we have.
ReplyDeleteYes, and it was a lovely service.
DeleteHi, there is an other tribute, from the New World at Pukekohe, on an electric guitar. Amazing, seems he has been entertaining. customers for a while.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean, I have put the link up. Have not heard it played on guitar before.
DeleteThe important thing is to remember, no matter how we have to do it.
ReplyDeleteYes, and on this morning's walk we noticed lots of photos pinned to gates of people who served.
DeleteMy brother's in NZ and Australia sent me a video of the last post and said that they were both at their gates at dawn. A good way to commemorate that day
ReplyDeleteThe address by Ron Marks was excellent.
DeleteWe remember hearing it when we were in NZ April 2017.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the Australian army looking after grandpa, I am here.
Anzac Biscuits will be baked today
