It is finally raining - well showers anyway. Everything is so dry it will take a lot of rain to do any good. A lot of rain is also needed to bring the Dams and Aquifers back. Still, this is a start and the forecast is showing showers for a few days - fingers crossed.
All moisture is welcome, we had a few spits this morning, enough to linger as the wind blew them onto the windows. Tomorrow I think the last courgette plants will come out, two tiny ones left and the last flowers have dried up. Time to hope we can get some vege seedlings down here, I think Oderings are open for online??? But out of our region to collect, and we have such a small garden now do not want too many at a time, unless we share them.
ReplyDeleteI gather, here, Hammer Hardware are open for contactless sales and have seedlings. Not sure if you have them down there. Awapuni are doing flower seedlings from Wednesday. Hopefully you may be able to just pick a mix of both and just what you want. We got so many veg plants we have no more room for more. I have kept them watered with a watering can from our barrels but flower garden is bone dry.
DeleteToo much blo*dy rain here. It's been pouring for about 3 days, and will probably continue today. Sun tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWe need a lot more than 3 days. This year has been seriously dry, last year was seriously dry and winter 2018 was the same.
DeleteOh its so nice when it raons after a drought. Enjoy it all, and those wet earth smells too
ReplyDeleteYes, we just need it to keep up.
DeleteAh yes, this was what my Dad was saying about the Dams and Aquifers, particular with town based people who aren't used to conserving water, such as turning off the tap while cleaning teeth etc.... I am sure it will rain properly soon, and then of course it probably won't stop and it will be too wet!
ReplyDeleteWhereabouts is your Dad? The whole of the north and Auckland are now in serious drought.
DeleteWater conservation should be a national campaign. People waste so much.
ReplyDeleteYes, David, here, if you live outside of a town you either collect water from the roof or have a bore. Max and I lived off rainwater for over 30 years so got used to conserving it. We finally got a bore with pure water but then had to sell because of his dementia.
DeleteLove seeing Doug's windmill in the top shot. May you have more rain!
ReplyDeleteShowers and steady fine rain will be better than a downpour which just runs off
