TODAY

Doug's first job this morning after our walk was to release five Monarch butterflies.  He has some pieces of shade cloth in the mandarin tree as they are able to grip this well and they stay there for a while before flying away.

On the first day we went down to Level 2 our hairdresser, who is a mobile hairdresser and comes to the house, phoned to make an appointment.  It was just under eleven weeks since she last came.  She also happens to be the lady who introduced us so has a special place in our hearts.

Anyway,  today we have both had a trim, only a trim, as with it going into winter we decided to have our hair longer than usual.

Doug had a quick trip into town.  This is the first weekend that shops and the Growers' Market have been open.  We didn't venture to the market but Doug said the town was really busy, much more than on a usual Saturday.

  1. Good to hear that life is getting back to normal. Here things are still tentative; people are being very cautious. Our tiny market is this morning, but we won't go.

    1. One must sign in to shops, cafes, the market etc. in case tracking of the virus is needed. No-one was wearing a mask.

    2. Signing in is a good idea. Track and trace...

  2. I need a haircut too, so might be brave and visit our hairdresser on Tuesday. Ventured into Palmerston North on Friday, roads busy again, and it seemed to be people everywhere.Monarchs, that seems late for them, but they will hibernate when it gets cold.

    1. Yes, Doug was surprised at the number of people. Still collecting caterpillars. Last winter the continued right through.

  3. Love the monarch butterflies. One of the years I was over we had the caterpillars inside the house to protect them from a bad year of wasps. Fortunately that hasn't been a problem since. Missed seeing them this year.

  4. It must be really satisfying for you both to help raise these beautiful butterflies and then have the pleasure of releasing them into the wild.

    1. It is great releasing them and lovely having so many in our garden. There is a tree in the park just behind us where they overwinter.
